WE CAN'T RID THE WORLD OF VICES

Legislation is sometimes passed not because there is so much support for it
but because there is so little opposition to it.

This is most notable where pornography, prostitution, drugs, tobacco,
gambling etc. are concerned. Special interest groups dedicated to ridding
the world of these so-called vices always use the children as pawns so who
can oppose them without feeling like they're letting down the children?

Surprisingly enough, though, where alcohol consumption is concerned (which
probably contributes to more deaths than all the other vices combined) the
focus seems to be on educating people to drink responsibly rather than
ridding the world of alcohol completely.

Maybe something has been learned from prohibition after all. Too bad this
lesson is not in other areas.
