NO SPECIAL TREATMENT

DID someone legalize cocaine when I wasn't looking? With all this
thoughtful talk about George W. Bush's ancient past, I almost forgot
that most normal citizens go to jail for using drugs.

Perhaps this is Bush's subtle way of testing the waters before he
calls on Congress to revise the laws on what you can do to yourself
when you're young, stupid, and not hurting anyone but yourself. That
would be diabolically clever.

But if it's what it looks like, then this man needs to give up the
dirt and brave the consequences. I don't care if it was 40 years ago;
it's exactly this sort of thing that kills the political potential of
equally qualified people who just don't have as much family power.

If we're ready to accept the blots on the past of George W. Bush, then
we should be a lot more open to everyone else.
