CRUSADER WILLING TO GO TO JAIL

A local crusader for the legalization of marijuana to ease pain has no
problem doing time -- as long as it advances his arguments, says Grant
Krieger's lawyer.

"He'll go to jail for the cause, but not because he sold drugs," Adriano
Iovilleni said yesterday after Krieger's pot-growing operation was busted
by city police.

"He doesn't want to be labelled a drug trafficker."

On Wednesday night, police executed a search warrant at Krieger's home in
the 4600 block of Bowness Rd. N.W.

They found a small, sophisticated hydroponic marijuana growing operation,
with 29 plants in various stages, with a street value of $25,000.

He was charged with two counts of breach of probation, one count of
production/manufacturing of drugs, and one count of possession of marijuana
for the purpose of trafficking.

Krieger, 45, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, is the founder of the
Compassion Club, an organization made up of sick and dying Calgarians who
use marijuana to ease their pain.
