State Rep. Frank Boyle, D-Summit, announced this morning that he won't be seeking re-election in the fall. Boyle has served as the 73rd District Assemblyman for the last 22 years. "It has been a tremendous run, and I have enjoyed it immensely," Boyle wrote in a prepared statement. "But the time has come for me to retire and enjoy each and every day with my family." Boyle was known by many as a political maverick -- a straight shooter who didn't mince words and didn't change his position just because he traveled from Superior to the state's Capitol. Lake Superior Drug Task Force Forges Full-Time Ties To Fight Twin Ports Trafficking Police officers from Duluth, Hermantown and Superior are joining forces to fight a growing drug problem in the Twin Ports. The Lake Superior Drug Task Force is changing its structure, adding Superior and Hermantown as members. Each city will devote one full-time officer to the task force, which will be based in Duluth City Hall. "A unique aspect of this task force is we have joint jurisdiction," said Duluth Police Chief Roger Waller. Officers from Wisconsin or Minnesota will have jurisdiction on both sides of the state line. MADISON - Legislators are hoping to take a bite out of crime by limiting the sale of a cold medicine commonly used to manufacture methamphetamine. Senate Bill 78 was formally introduced Wednesday. If adopted, it will place limits on where and how much pseudoephedrine can be bought in a 30-day period. It will also create penalties for possession of ingredients used to manufacture meth. It would make pseudoephedrine a Schedule V drug, which can be sold at pharmacies only if the customer signs a registry and presents photo identification. [continues 609 words]
