I protest the legislative process, specifically the vote of reconsideration Gov. Frank Murkowski won in passage of House Bill 149, criminalizing small amounts of weed ("House passes merged drug bill," May 6). Growing marijuana seedlings is a passionate hobby, nurturing plants from seedlings to the final curing process. The successful yield is a sticky, spicy-tasting bud. Alaskans have enjoyed growing cannabis or marijuana for over 30 years now. We've specialized in seedlings and clones using indoor grow-lighting and growing outdoor plants during the long summer months under the midnight sun. I enjoy the health benefits of full-spectrum lighting during our long winter season, along with my house plants. We're Alaskans from all walks of life. So, dear friends and foes, when the day comes when Gov. Frank Murkowski is "laid out and candle lit," Alaskans will still enjoy growing cannabis at home. It's the preferred medicine of 134,647 "yes" Alaskan voters on the 2004 general election ballot. Georgia Mario, Nikolaevsk [end]

But if you have a bong, a pipe, or paraphernalia such as roach clips, lighters with hemp leaves that say, "I support the right to keep and load bongs!," etc., citizenry will face criminal prosecution, penalties, fines, and restitution/rehabilitation? - -- Georgia Mario Chugiak [end]
I recently attended a debate at the Anchorage Museum of Fine Art, sponsored by Free Hemp in Alaska and moderated by Al Anders, chair. Debating the merits of Proposition 5 were Chris Conrad, published author and internationally renowned expert on the various aspects of cannabis sativa and legal hemp, and on par excellence to his counter former U.S. Attorney Wev Shea, who reasonably articulated why Proposition 5 is flawed and/or poorly written, notwithstanding the feds-U.S. statutes, etc. Thank you for the handouts; thank you for taking time to discuss the issues.
