MAPLE VALLEY -- The three detectives shot Sunday are part of the Sheriff's Office's drive to take the war on drugs into local neighborhoods. For years, deputies in a centralized drug unit went after big drug dealers who supply the crack cocaine, marijuana and other drugs that threaten a community's sense of security. But Sheriff Dave Reichert, after listening to public sentiment, decided last year the best way to rid neighborhoods of drugs is to target local dealers and their clients. [continues 91 words]
County Subsidizes Maple Valley Drug, Alcohol Treatment County Executive Ron Sims will delay for at least a week a decision on the fate of a county-run drug and alcohol treatment center in Maple Valley. Sims was expected to send a letter to the King County Council yesterday outlining his plans for Cedar Hills Alcohol Treatment facility. But he has asked for more information after seeing a draft of the letter. "He was not ready yet to make a final recommendation," said Elaine Kraft, Sims' spokeswoman.
