KUALA LUMPUR: Some 80 school heads, senior assistants and parent-teacher associations representatives will attend a special course on fighting the Ecstasy threat soon.

Datuk Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik said the course, to be conducted by the MCA, is to train teachers on how to get their students to say no to Ecstasy.

The MCA president said students were the major target of Ecstasy pushers and it was found that many were not prepared on how to say no to Ecstasy.

KUALA LUMPUR: Schoolchildren are being offered 10 Ecstasy pills free for every new user that they recruit under a deadly scheme devised by peddlers.

Unlike get-rich-quick schemes promoted by some direct-selling firms, members of this marketing plan are only likely to end up in agony or even dead.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik, who disclosed the evil plan by Ecstasy pushers yesterday, said the targeted distribution network covered primary and secondary school students.

"Initially the children get a few free pills. Then they will be given 10 for every new user they bring in.

BENTONG: Rat poison is being added to locally produced Ecstasy pills to give a bigger kick to techno music-crazed pill poppers.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik said police told him that analysis of the pills showed that some contained highly toxic rat poison.

"Ecstasy pills are getting more and more contaminated while the price is going down quickly to lure more victims.

"Very soon, it wil be RM5 or RM6 per pill against the initial RM100 to RM150 each,'' he said after opening the Bentong MCA building yesterday.

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had been given a list of details on gangsters harassing local authorities who cracked down on premises peddling Ecstasy pills and running horse-racing video machines.

The list, which included the gangsters' vehicles and number plates, was submitted by Transport Minister and MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik at Putrajaya yesterday.

Dr Ling said Abdullah, who is also Home Minister, wanted to be regularly updated on the campaign on social ills.

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA leaders or members caught involved in Ecstasy pills will face party disciplinary action.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik said he had heard rumours of such involvement.

"I have asked the party leadership to check this out and stop such unhealthy activities,'' Dr Ling told reporters after chairing a 2-1/2-hour MCA central committee meeting here yesterday.

He was asked to comment on talks that MCA leaders or members were said to be involved in Ecstasy pills.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Government wants to find a means to confirm a suspected Ecstasy pill user on the spot, in a manner similar to the breathalyser test to detect drunk drivers.

At present, Ecstasy pill users are detected through urine tests, and a device which can give instant results is being sought.

The Health, Transport and Home ministries will jointly study the proposal by Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik.

Dr Ling said yesterday that he was concerned after being informed that many fatal road accidents were due to consuming Ecstasy pills.

7 Malaysia: MCA Sets Up Panel To Tackle Social Ills Among YouthsTue, 16 May 2000

KUALA LUMPUR: The MCA has set up a committee to tackle rising social-ills among youths, particularly drug abuse. Committee chairman Datuk Chor Chee Heung said the problems included taking Ecstasy pills and gambling.

He said a recommendation would be submitted to the party for consideration in four months' time.

Chor, who is Deputy Home Minister, said it would take a hands-on approach to get to the root of the problems.

He said the committee would be represented by the Youth and Wanita movement besides state representatives.
