Re "Medical pot ID program gets El Dorado OK," June 7: The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors voted to begin a state ID card system for medical marijuana patients. The ID helps police officers identify patients so taxpayer money is not spent on people who have not committed a crime. Those of us who reside in Sacramento are patiently waiting. Our board of supervisors should be working diligently to provide Sacramento residents with the same protection. Since we require our police officers not to be discriminatory, it is important that we as a community help them by allowing patients to obtain a card identifying them as a valid certified Californian patient. Only here in America can a murderer receive a lower sentence than a sick patient that grows medical marijuana for themselves and other sick patients. Here in California where we have the Compassionate Use Act, law enforcement and government officials have been requested to take a new look and revamp their thought process and policies. Patients are not criminals. You cannot look at the age, gender or religion of a person to determine if they are a patient, you cannot look at the appearance of that person to make that determination.
