PENDER COUNTY - Pender County Sheriff Carson Smith has hired two new deputies and a narcotic officer. Since being hired, all three have been willing to put their nose to the ground and work like dogs in the areas they have been assigned Deputies Hope and Haley have been assigned to work with Deputy Scott Lawson and Deputy Taylor. Hope will ride with Taylor and Hailey will ride with Lawson. Roscoe has been assigned to narcotics where he will be pared with Detective Patrick Giddeon. [continues 602 words]
HAMPSTEAD - An unannounced drug check on Tuesday morning by the Pender County Sheriff's Department at Topsail High School netted one arrest, a small amount of marijuana and paraphernalia. This check was nothing new according to Captain Chris Thomas of the Pender County, who says deputies are periodically and randomly checking all the schools in the county. "We don't want to get the word out that we are coming in and the school likes it that way too," said Thomas. [continues 183 words]
