How unbelievably irresponsible for the Liberal government to suggest decriminalizing, even legalizing, marijuana. Government is supposed to guide and protect its citizens, not send the wrong message that drug use is OK. Recently, Time magazine published the results of a study of this noxious weed: There were negative effects on the heart, lungs, blood circulation, mood and behaviour and reproductive functions. After the health considerations, pot also promotes a sleazy, unwholesome lifestyle -- just like alcohol does. Accidents, disorderly conduct and other mishaps are often the result of drug use. Last, but not least: Drug use, like alcohol abuse, is spiritually damaging -- causing the enslavement of a person. Therefore, its use must be strongly discouraged. Erika Kubassek Cambridge [end]
Re Senate panel supporting the legalization of marijuana. It seems that the senators in Ottawa have lost their marbles. Pot use is not only dangerous to the users' health, but it is a substance that influences the mind, like alcohol, and those who drive and use machinery under "the influence" can be a real hazard to themselves and others. Most importantly, however, is the spiritual aspect here. Those who use marijuana, much alcohol or harder drugs open their soul to evil influences - - and later become out-of-control zombies of no benefit to anyone. One would think that those geriatric senators would have more common sense than to recommend legalizing pot. Erika Kubassek, Cambridge [end]

I'm responding to Clyde Warrington's April 5 article, 'Doobie Brothers' keep on smokin'. Clearly, smoking is hazardous to people's health. Smoking pot is dangerous to body, mind and spirit. Contrary to new-agers Tucker and Baldasaro, God does not approve of their drug habit. Drugs, cigarettes and alcohol destroy the God-given bodies and minds of people. Therefore, to call pot the "comfort of God" amounts to blasphemy. God's holy spirit is the comforter to those who believe. Erika Kubassek Cambridge [end]
