Lawmaker To Summon Spouse Of Prosecutor The House Committee on Dangerous Drugs plans to summon the wife of beleaguered State Prosecutor John Resado to a hearing investigating the alleged bribery in the "Alabang Boys" drug case. THE Department of Justice (DOJ) on Monday filed with the Regional Trial Court of Pasig City violations of the antidrug laws against 148 individuals who were arrested in a raid at the "shabu tiangge" in Pasig City on February 10, 2006. In the DOJ resolution filed by State Prosecutors Elizabeth Berdal and Marlette Balagtas, charges of visiting a drug den, illegal possession of prohibited drugs and equipment, maintaining a drug den and illegal use of prohibited were filed against the respondents. Davide Orders Random Testing for All Justices, Judges and Court Officials CHIEF Justice Hilario Davide Jr. on Thursday ordered justices, judges and other court officials and employees of the judiciary to undergo drug testing. Davide issued Memorandum Order 18-2005 directing the Office of the Court Administrator, the Chiefs of the Office of Administrative Services of the Supreme Court and the Chief of Medical Services to conduct surprise and random drug testing and monitor judiciary officials and employees using drugs. Davide wants the memorandum to cover all the officials and employees of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Sandiganbayan, Court of Tax Appeals and the regional and municipal trial courts. THE Department of Justice (DOJ) is not in favor of legalizing marijuana, saying it would be open to abuse. Justice Secretary Raul M. Gonzalez said he does not favor the legalization of marijuana on a wholesale scale, because it would lead to drug addiction of many if the government allows it to be sold openly. Gonzalez told The Manila Times that although marijuana could be used for medical purposes, its bad effects should be considered more than the good effects. "I am not in favor of the legalization of marijuana on a wholesale scale for it could be subject to abuses," Gonzalez said. [continues 114 words]
