The sporting world remains in a state of mourning after the horrific and shocking news that Olympic hero Michael Phelps smokes marijuana. ecome of this world? How are we as a society supposed to continue to progress with such evil existing right in front of our eyes?

What's next, Tiger Woods gets a seatbelt ticket? No wait; don't tell me, Sidney Crosby caught throwing a pop can in the garbage? I don't know if I could stand that kind of pain.

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

I am writing this letter in response to the recent editorial written in the Endeavour, by Mr. Chuck Beyer, dated April 7, 2004 entitled "Scholz a control freak".

When I first read this letter, it deeply upset me. However, it also made me step back and analyze the way in which I handle my role in leadership.

The letter was from someone who had not been at the meeting and had not had the opportunity to speak with me personally so it was evident that not all the information was present.

If students at LCC needed any reminders about the pain illegal drugs can cause, they got one in the form of another student.

Natasha Arthur, a guard for gold-medal-winning women's basketball team, was stripped of her medal and suspended from competition for four years after testing positive for cocaine metabolites.

The other players and team will keep their medals and national championships title.

Arthur, a general studies student from Salmon Arm, B.C., was randomly selected for testing at the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association national championships in Montreal.

Dear Editor,

Keeping marijuana illegal is just wonderful for the law enforcement and politicians.

They get to keep all the money from these busts.

When will society finally get hip and just legalize pot and move on to more important issues like spousal abuse, education, and healthcare.

5 CN AB: Edu: PUB LTE: Scholz A Control FreakWed, 07 Apr 2004
Source:Endeavour, The (CN AB Edu) Author:Beyer, Chuck Area:Alberta Lines:43 Added:04/09/2004

Dear Editor,

It usually takes a face-to-face meeting to spot a control freak.

Lethbridge Community College Student's Association President, Preston Scholz, has managed to display this trait across the print media.

Activist Sarah Schmit is quite correct that censorship should not be allowed in schools.

The obvious place to start is for students to replace Preston Scholz with a proponent of free speech. I am sure if those attending wanted to change the subject from marijuana legalization they could have done so without Preston Scholz's Orwellian interference.

Mr. Scholz is obviously a prohibitionist. I can't believe my tax dollars are supporting his anti-intellectual authoritarian agenda.

Students at Lethbridge Community College deserve better and must rid themselves of Mr. Scholz.

6 CN AB: Edu: Marijuana Activist Arrested; Unable To Make Speech At LCCWed, 31 Mar 2004
Source:Endeavour, The (CN AB Edu) Author:Nagaya, Naoki Area:Alberta Lines:74 Added:04/04/2004

The B.C. marijuana party was here last Thursday and it has Student's Association President, Preston Scholz seeing red, not green.

Scholz who was responsible for the meeting was told it was about voter apathy and tuition cost; however, the meeting turned into a discussion about legalizing marijuana.

"This was not the intent. It was supposed to be talking about a number of issues. It wasn't supposed to be about marijuana, but that's what it turned into, and that is where I had to try to get things to move on. They just kept coming back," said Scholz after the meeting.
