To The Editor: Regarding the story "Mounties notch record pot hauls," stop and think of all the taxpayer money that goes into fighting a plant that God put on this Earth. I would assume this might not be a good time for God to return to his planet, as he would probably be arrested for cultivating a controlled substance with intent to distribute. This prohibition is on a non-toxic plant that has been medicine to humans for over 5,000 years and is now being recognized around the world by scientist and doctors who are standing up and supporting this medicine. CLEAN Invites Reformed Hardcore Drug User To Talk To Students A Toronto man visited Wilmot last week to warn local youth about the dangers of drugs. Rick Osbourne toured schools on an invitation from a local drug awareness group. Community Link Empowered Against Narcotics (CLEAN) invited Osbourne to speak. Osbourne said he tours schools to prevent young kids from falling into a life like his. "I don't want any young people getting played like I got played," he said. In Grade 9, his life fell apart. Complaints of Commercial Growers Prompt Revisit Year Later Citing public safety issues, the Trinity County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday repealed a year-old ordinance that allowed medical marijuana users to exceed state limits on how much marijuana residents could grow and keep. After a public hearing at the Veterans Hall in Weaverville, the board voted unanimously to repeal the ordinance that was passed last fall. The Trinity County Board of Supervisors heard comments Tuesday regarding the county's medical marijuana law that allows prescription holders to possess up to 12 mature plants and 3 pounds of processed marijuana, up from the state's limit of six plants and 8 ounces. More than 40 community members addressed the board, urging supervisors to repeal the ordinance, and several suggested the county comply with federal law by disallowing medical marijuana use altogether. Re "Panel votes to open door to medicinal pot shops," March 27: I am vehemently opposed to the location of any medicinal marijuana dispensary within the city of Elk Grove. As with juice bars and adult bookstores, the recommendations put forth by the commission have one purpose: to establish stringent, consistent requirements that can be applied on objectionable, but legal, industries. Had the commission failed to recommend appropriate zoning conditions for these facilities, it would have created an even greater threat to public safety. [continues 95 words]
