PULASKI -- A crowd of students at Pulaski Middle School this week greeted and petted Raider, an 18-month-old black European Labrador retriever.

Raider was introduced to the students on Wednesday at a special assembly. In a way Raider belongs to them -- the middle school helped raise $2,700 so the local police department could purchase him as a drug dog.

The schools and the community collected more than $9,000, a testament to the collaborative spirit of the community, said Pulaski Police Chief Randal Dunford.

Proposition OK'd Tuesday in Michigan

GREEN BAY -- People who support using marijuana for medical purposes in Wisconsin hope a Michigan proposition could have a ripple effect in the Badger state. Advertisement

On Election Day, a two-thirds majority in Michigan voted for the proposition, which would allow people with serious or terminal illnesses to use marijuana if certified by a doctor. The law allows patients to possess 2.5 ounces of marijuana; they would receive a state ID card.

The law only recognizes patients with identification cards or their equivalent given out by states that also allow medical marijuana.

Traditional Methods of Treatment May Not Be Enough for Some Abusers

ONEIDA -- The line Ron Hill draws to represent the history of his people is absurdly short given that it stretches from "creation" to present time, but it's enough to make his point.

"We have to go all the way back to the beginning," said Hill, a cultural wellness facilitator for the Oneida Tribe of Indians. "The emphasis on creation -- they're not just stories. There's a lot of meaning that still applies today."
