Re: America's longest war by Gwynne Dyer, Sept. 8

Nice of Gwynne Dyer to tell the story about many countries decriminalizing drugs.

But how could he miss the fact that Canada is going in the opposite direction by bringing in mandatory minimums for drug offenses.

Why is (Prime Minister Stephen) Harper bringing them in to Canada?

Dear Editor,

I agree with the article about legalisation of cannabis. Yes, Jamaica should legalise. Why allow the USA to dictate cannabis policies to you?

Imagine the boost to tourism. Imagine herb smokers being on the same side as the police and imagine how legalisation would take the business away from criminals and put it into the hands of legitimate business and the product being taxed and that money put into education, better schools with more resources for teachers, etc.

Science is showing that cannabis is actually good for our bodies. Smoking it is not so good, but it can be eaten or vaporised.

I am fighting to have cannabis legalised in my country, Canada. If you are interested in truth go to www.norml.org http://www.norml.org and www.leap.cc http://www.leap.cc.

3 CN ON: PUB LTE: All Drugs Should Be LegalizedMon, 27 Jul 2009

Dear editor,

The July 21 article Don't fear the reefer said, "Bill C-15 would impose mandatory minimum sentences on smaller-scale drug traffickers, distributors and producers, meaning anyone producing between one and 200 plants may face up to six months in prison. Anyone convicted of possession of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking may be subject to one-year imprisonment."

I'd like to make a small correction to this. Bill C-15 was amended to five to 200 plants from the original one to 200 plants. It is still regressive crap! Just imagine what it would be like if the neo-conservatives had a majority in parliament.

All drugs should be legal and regulated. See the Law Enforcement Against Prohibition website at www.leap.cc

There should be no fine. Using drugs is not a crime, and most problems with drug use are because of Prohibition. Legalization, regulation and control are the only ways to minimize the harms of drug use. Prohibition causes an open, unregulated drug market operated by criminals. Allowing criminals to control the drug market is a stupid public policy. Please visit www.leap.cc. Ask cops why drugs should be legalized.

We should legalize cannabis wherein a person can grow for their own use, but keep sales illegal. This would take most of the money out of the black market in drugs. It would take cannabis sales away from the crack and meth dealers. The police would still have their job targeting exporters and dealers, and cannabis consumers would be free to have their weed. It's a win-win and it is what is happening now in several European countries. Let's end the war on cannabis consumers.

(What's wrong with selling it and taxing it, like anything else?)

Re: Minty herb sparks concerns.

I really wish people would do research about drugs before they report on them.

Banning it will not stop children from getting it. Let me let you in on a little secret: there is a harmless herb called Cannabis which is banned.

The hallucinations only last for five to 10 minutes not 30 minutes

This plant is used for religious purposes and is a sacred plant for many.

If you really want to know what stops people from using salvia it's salvia itself. Most people only try it once because it is a very strange experience, which comes on very fast and can be scary.
