Despite almost every terrorist organization having representation in Canada, Canadians are too apathetic when it comes to terrorism and organized crime, says a Toronto researcher.

The Tamil Tigers from Sri Lanka are engaging in illicit activities in Canada, with more than 200,000 supporters in Toronto and approximately 50,000 between Ottawa and Montreal.

Hezbollah, Al-Qaeda and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam are listed as terrorist organizations by the United States, Great Britain and the United Nations Security Council.

It's Friday evening and, like many business owners in Canada, Lynn Wood is hard at work in the store she owns with husband Jim. However, unlike many businesses in Canada, or any in New Brunswick for that matter, Saint John's Cannabis Cafe allows people to smoke marijuana, and has recently announced that they will begin selling it as well.

With two new glass display cases to fill with pipes, digital scales, bongs, lighters, seeds, magazines, and even hallucinogenic peyote tea, the main project of the evening involves Lynn and perky part-time worker Shellie rearranging back issues of the magazines they carry. These include the well-known High Times, which will feature the cafe in its November issue, and Heads, published out of Montreal.

VANCOUVER (CUP) -- North America's first government-sanctioned, supervised drug injection site has opened in Vancouver and proponents hope it will help reduce the health risks faced by intravenous drug users.

While the injection site will serve as a place to shoot up in a safe, clean environment, it will also assess its own harm reduction impact through a scientific research project.

"This is a human problem and this supervised injection site is a humane intervention," said Liz Evans, whose PHS Community Services Society will be operating the facility with the regional healthcare authority.

The motion also calls for the federal government to launch a national awareness campaign and to establish standards through all police forces for enforcement of the law.

Former MacKenzie House resident, Derek Stapleton, has decided not to file an appeal to UNB President, Elizabeth Parr-Johnston, over his eviction from residence because of alleged marijuana use in his room.

Stapleton's decision came after a discussion with John Craighead, UNB's Associate Director Residential Life.

"Craighead agreed to give me visitation rights in MacKenzie House after Christmas and I am very pleased with that," Stapleton told the Brunswickan this week.

"Craighead said he would talk with Chris Mercer, the Don of MacKenzie House, to see if it was all right and apparently Mercer agreed," Stapleton said.

Student Says His Eviction From Residence Was Wrongful

Former UNB residence student, Derek Stapleton, plans to launch an appeal to University Secretary Stephen Strople, after being evicted from MacKenzie House earlier this week.

He was evicted after an incident involving alleged use of marijuana in his residence room.

Stapleton maintains his innocence and told The Brunswickan this week that neither he nor his eight friends who were partying in his room the night of October 30th were smoking marijuana.

Stapleton said a friend of a friend was visiting his room and was smoking a brand of American cigarette tobacco that when smoked, did smell somewhat like marijuana.
