Pete Roglich did not have a happy Christmas. The 52-year-old Trail man has been without power and without his "medicine" since his home was raided Dec. 19 and RCMP seized 200 marijuana plants. Roglich and his wife Denise both have Health Canada permits to grow, possess and use dried marijuana to help them treat their Hepatitis C. "I'm sick and getting sicker each week," Roglich said. A Trail man is one step closer to having his case of alleged discrimination heard by the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal. "This is very positive," said Dennis Lillico from his East Trail home. "This isn't just about me anymore. The B.C. Compassion Club has over 1,000 very sick people who are trying to get federal exemption to grow their own medicinal marijuana." Lillico got the news this month that while his case against two local physicians - Dr. T.H. Hii and Dr. Michael Scully - had been dismissed, his case against the B.C. While Dennis Lillico said while he is very grateful his doctor wrote him a letter that now allows him to purchase medicinal marijuana from the Compassion Club in Nelson, he wants to know why he can't grow his own. "I was busted a few weeks ago," Lillico said. "The RCMP came to my house because a friend had called them to express concern about my emotional health. When the officers came they saw I was growing some clones and baby plants and they took them away." [continues 685 words]
The resignation last week of two key doctors in the federal medical marijuana program is not good news for local pot proponent Dennis Lillico. Up until recently, Lillico was confident that he was safe growing small amounts of marijuana for medicinal use. But he destroyed his plants this weekend and does not know how he will deal with his illness. "I don't have time to wait for all the red tape," said the 38-year-old Trail man.
