Just to be clear, I have no dog in the fight concerning gay marriage, abortion rights or the legalization of marijuana.

I have, however, read the Constitution of the United States.

Nowhere in it do I find any reference to any of these subjects. I did find that on March 4, 1789, several amendments to the Constitution were put into law. For this discussion, the one of importance is the Tenth Amendment.

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

Pictures of the US Olympic Hero Smoking Pot Should Be Viewed As a Positive Sign

I SPENT time in the pleasant company of a gentleman last week; a white-haired, young looking 73-year-old grandfather who has managed to do what intelligent people invariably do: that is, he has kept his mind open. Let us call him David, because that is his name. In the midst of our conversation, the subject of Michael Phelps surfaced. "The news," he said of the swimmer being photographed smoking marijuana from a bong, "was a great tragedy." Mindful of his seniority, it was with some reluctance that I questioned his conclusion. "Do you really mean tragedy? If you do, it shows that you haven't been father to teenage boys or young men for some time." He was surprised to be told that so many of today's teenagers and young men use pot. He found the news mildly shocking.

Due to overwhelming interest and crowd expectations The First Atlantic Hemp Fest has out-grown its initial venue size. In doing so, its organizers overcame a giant hurdle in securing a larger venue at short notice.

Organizing any festival is a mammoth task; securing musicians, finding a suitable location, and arranging guest speakers are just some of the considerations facing Debbie Stultz-Giffin, chairwoman for Maritimers Unite for Medical Marijuana (MUMM) and the main force behind the first annual Hemp Fest.

AYLESFORD - The bucolic community of Aylesford in the heart of the Annapolis Valley is gearing up to stage Atlantic Canada's first-ever hemp festival, a two-day event aimed at raising awareness about the use of medicinal marijuana.

Fox Mountain Camping Park is the selected venue for a weekend extravaganza starting July 31 that will include concerts by some of the province's top bands.

The non-profit group Maritimers Unite for Medical Marijuana (MUMM) plans to use the festival to highlight its ongoing concerns about the growth, supply and distribution of medicinal marijuana.
