Dear Editor: I definitely have trouble wrapping my head around the idea of spending money to provide a safe monitored space for fentanyl and other drug users, giving them a second chance to inject another death wish. Our friends are grandparents to a beautiful three-year-old granddaughter, Emma who was born like so many children to a life of suffering and pain with no future antidote in sight. She lived with a loving mother and father just a few miles north of Penticton. Emma was buried on Dec. 29, 2016. This beautiful tiny tot had no chance at a long life on earth but as she enters heaven, I pray that God has a special place saved for her - a place where she can play and be happy and pain free with those many other babies that went to heaven before her. Just when I thought I heard it all now this. Whoopteedoo - overdose prevention site opening in Kelowna Tuesday to Saturday, from noon to 7.30 p.m. The site will be open seven and a half hours, five days a week allowing drug addicts near by the choice of where and when help is available to reverse their sickly crawl toward death after a shoot up? Any user outside of the area please phone 911 and make an appointment. My question is, where do many of these people that shoot the needle instead of the breeze get the money to obtain the killer drug fentanyl and all that other stuff? [continues 110 words]
I found it highly amusing to hear the so-called "smart" clean people advising all drug addicts to use the safe-injection site for their own safety. What kind of drug are these "advisors" on? Drug addicts are out to lunch and incapable of making sound decisions. They may as well advise all criminals and prostitutes that their chosen way of life is bad for their health and a change of lifestyle is needed immediately. What a perfect world it would be. Re: 'White may be on to something,' Times Editorial, Jan. 9. Randy White might be on to something? Say what? White makes a claim he has called for a prison enquiry for eight years. Well there have been prisons and crime around for a touch longer than eight years and most problems have no magic serum. It is easy to look over and criticize a system that is beyond the comprehension of one who is only a mouthpiece and has never worked the inside of the fence or the big house. [continues 101 words]
