On Jan. 18, 2006, Kelly Lee Bonnville was rushed to the hospital, unresponsive and near death.

Two days later, the 31-year-old woman from Shelby died.

The official cause of death listed on the certificate of death: Narcotic Toxicity.

Bonnville died of an overdose of legal narcotics -- prescription painkillers to which she'd become fatally addicted.

"This is something you read about," says her mother, Laurie Beckman, who lives in the Stony Lake area in Oceana County. "It doesn't happen to you."
