Mayor William Wade confirmed during a special meeting of the Keystone Town Council on Tuesday that the West Virginia State Police would soon be conducting an investigation concerning the theft of drugs that had been stored in the Keystone City Hall from past drug seizures.

Keystone Police Chief Sherman McKinney discovered there were missing drugs during an inventory check on April 1. The substances, which were being kept in a safe inside the City Hall, were from seizures dating back to 1998 and 1999.

BLUEFIELD - Recognizing the growing forms of peer pressure teenagers face in today's world, a group of Mercer County students and parents have come together during the past few months to form an organization designed to inform area teens about the dangers of drugs, alcohol and early sexual involvement. Project Y.E.S. (Youth Enriching Services) was started in Mercer County in October and currently is offering students from Montcalm to Princeton a chance to participate in activities that are drug and alcohol free. The latest venture occurred on Friday when Project Y.E.S. hosted a bowling party at Mountaineer Lanes in Bluefield.

RICHLANDS, Va. - Six months ago Shannon Smith was fighting a drug addiction that was creating an uncertain future for her. Today, however, the 22-year-old Richlands native has recovered and is actively seeking a nursing degree. Smith's story is just one of many successes that have resulted from a combined effort of Tazewell County law enforcement and medical personnel over the past year. With Smith in attendance, these officials gathered for the third of a series of town meetings on Monday night at Richlands Middle School.
