Thursday's editorial about the U.S. Supreme Court's medical marijuana ruling was about as wimpy as any I've read ("Keep lid on pot"). Perhaps you're afraid of ruffling feathers on the right by appearing to be "soft on drugs" while, at the same time, cautiously scolding the Supremes for misapplying the commerce clause of the Constitution. Here are the real choices: Either quit wasting incredible amounts of resources to prosecute hippies and sick people for growing weeds, or go full-throttle nannyism by reinstating Prohibition and banning all psychoactive substances. For our courageous leaders to embrace the brewing and distilling industries that are directly responsible for the slow deaths of millions of Americans, while demonizing a comparably benign herb, epitomizes absurdity. Thursday's clumsy editorial is the pinnacle of this illogical ideology. Phoenix [end]
