Medicinal marijuana dispensary in Stellarton offers variety of products

This isn't your grandma's home remedy.

Although maybe it is - maybe your grandma is totally on board with medical marijuana taking away the aches and pains that can come with old age.

"If you eat that ice cream, you're going to feel very, very relaxed. We've got people in their 80s coming in here," said Hank Merchant, chief executive officer of HBB Medical - a medicinal pot dispensary in Stellarton that opened several weeks ago.

It must have been a real buzz killer.

"We had to show them that we mean business," said RCMP Cpl. Al Affleck, of a drug bust Friday around 12:30 p.m near Northumberland Regional High School where 13 teens were charged with drug activity.

For two weeks, two police officers conducted undercover surveillance of a store parking lot, situated less than a kilometre from Northumberland Regional High School. What they saw, day after day, was groups of students brazenly smoking marijuana, some of them drinking.

Northumberland Regional High School's principal, Preston Lockhart, was dealing with the aftermath Monday, three days after 13 students were charged with drug offences following a two-week RCMP surveillance operation.

Thirty more students were identified through videotape as having allegedly participated in pot-smoking at a parking lot near the Alma school.

Through a school board press release, Lockhart said a response plan is being developed, part of which will involve previously-planned activities. A school-led investigation into the incident and those involved was expected to begin today.
