The Supreme Court of Canada ruled that criminal sanctions for marijuana use are constitutional. According to a Focus press release, the court's decision affirmed that "marijuana is a psychoactive drug that alters mental functions and has the potential to cause harm. This raises issues of public health and safety, both for the user and for those in the broader society." Rogusky declared: "Given the overwhelming medical evidence, it is appropriate that the Court stressed that marijuana is indeed a harmful substance, and that Parliament has the right to legislate over its control for the good of all Canadians." - --- MAP posted-by: Larry Seguin
