NO DIGGING THROUGH STUDENTS' FILES WITHOUT JUSTIFICATION

Thumbs Down: To the Vancouver School Board's proposal to allow city police 
carte blanche access to every high school student's file. The Vancouver 
Police Department says having the students' histories on hand would make it 
easier for them. An 8 p.m. curfew probably would too, but that's not how 
law enforcement works in a free society. Police currently request specific 
info on a student on a need-to-know basis. That's how it should be unless 
we want to give kids the message that they're second class citizens.
