Toronto Police arrived around 1 a.m. at a 15th-floor apartment at 10 Martha Eaton Way, just west of Tretheway Dr. and Black Creek Dr., to investigate a complaint of leaking water. But when officers knocked on the door, residents of the unit refused to open it, police said. As officers waited to gain entry, police allege Thi Thuy Pham -- one of two women in the apartment -- attempted to flee over the balcony by climbing to another one a floor below. However, she apparently slipped and fell to her death. Officers later gained access to the unit and discovered a marijuana grow operation inside. Police say a large number of the plants had been harvested. A second female resident of the apartment was later arrested. Thu Nguyen, 33, faces charges of producing marijuana and possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. She is to appear in bail court at Old City Hall today. A mound of fresh flowers and several sticks of burning incense lay on the grass at the rear of the building last night marking the scene of Pham's death. - --- MAP posted-by: Elizabeth Wehrman
