The Standard, 09 Sep 2012 - A young man sells marijuana to raise school fees and he gets arrested, tried before the courts and is sentenced to two months in prison. That he did something wrong is not in dispute but the fact that he had to resort to an illegal way of raising money to educate himself should be something that should worry all of us, more so, our political leaders. There are many more young men who are surviving through similar entrepreneurial skills. Mutandwa, GraceThe StandardDrugnews - Zimbabwe2012-09-10Zimbabwe: US Donates Drug Fighting Equipment

The Zimbabwe Standard, 10 Mar 1999 - Harare - A crackdown on drug traffickers has been promised by Zimbabwe's Criminal Investigation Department, following the donation of $500 000 worth of drug fighting equipment by the United States on Thursday. CID Commissioner, Zacheas Nyathi, told the gathering during the handover ceremony that the donated equipment had come at a critical time. He predicted that newspaper reports would soon appear giving details of successful drug busts made with the use of these new items. The donated package included faxes, computers, printers, two sniffer dog trailers, and funding for two CID narcotic unit officers to attend a two week training course in South Africa, after which they would return with strategic information for fellow officers. American Embassy regional security officer, Jeff Horkey, said his offices had benefited from the services of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, and wanted to make a donation in return. Times, 21 May 1998 - ZIMBABWE'S tobacco industry, which helped the Rhodesian economy to thrive through 14 years of United Nations sanctions, is on the brink of collapse and threatens to cause the economy to disintegrate. Harare's cavernous tobacco auction floors, usually a hive of activity, fell almost silent on Monday as the 5,300 growers withheld their leaf in a week-long protest at low prices.
