MAP Editor in Training (EIT) |
Dispatch on Demand Overview What is DoD? |
Dispatch on Demand (DoD) is the MAP editor-article interface. This perl program allows editors to manage articles which have been submitted to our archives. All article actions are time-stamped for tracking statistics and to ensure unselected articles are pushed out to an available editor.
|
User Who and Why: |
DoD is used by our MAP Editors to grab articles which need to be evaluated for posting. Part of the beauty of our system is it allows Editors to process articles when it fits into their schedule. It also allows Editors to choose the quantity and level of difficulty of articles they process. Although it rarely happens, if any articles have been hanging in the queue longer than 12 hours, they are sent (pushed) to available Editors.

Where DoD Fits into the "Big Picture" |
In general terms, DoD acts as a grab bag of articles sent in by our Newshawks. The best way to show how DoD fits into the "big picture" is with a picture! A flow chart, of sorts, to be exact. It is a BIG picture so don't feel overwhelmed. Just take your time and follow the arrows.

Brief Overview of the Process |
A typical Editor's session begins by bringing up the DoD screen. There is usually 10-30 articles listed which are waiting to be processed. The Editor selects/requests as few or as many articles as they have time to process. Within minutes, and usually within seconds, the requested articles will arrive via email. The Editor processes the articles and sends them back to MAP via email.
OK, that's the overview…when you're ready…let's get down to how to use DoD! |
